Re: future computer ~ W3
Tue, January 4, 2005 - 11:41 AMNice one!
There were a few things in there I didn't yet know about, and some interesting future predictions to top it off... FYI: The video paper that SONY and PHILIPS released was invented by an English firm a some years ago already. Interesting that these two got together again to set the standard. This is going to be big, as in Blade Runner scenes big. SONY and PHILIPS have joined once before to standardise the compact disc, which was originally invented by PHILIPS who also brough us the compact cassette.
Since I have a feeling you're into this kinda stuff, have you heard of this new intelligent search algorhythm called WebFountain? It was devised by some grad student if I remember correctly. It can predict future trends by collecting data from such broad stretching sources as chat rooms and blogs through which it calculates valuable (future) insights. A number of corporations have allready begun to utilise the system and the intelligence community shows great interest as well. Look it up to see what else you can find.
In terms of future computing, it's already begun:
Brits to demo world's largest computing grid

Sir Timothy Berners-Lee's visionary decissions were of paramount importance to what the Word Wide Web is today and what it will be. I consider it the womb of the coming Singularity and the growing neural network of an approaching global transformation...
I'd love for you to add this link to the "W3 Evolution" thread in transhuman.tribe.net as it is perfectly in line with its mind-set ;-)
peace,

Fri, February 4, 2005 - 1:02 PMVacuum tubes replaced larger electromagnetic relays.
Transistors replaced larger vacuum tubes.
It now looks like the there may be a quantum replacement for the transistor around the corner that will put at least current desktop power in the size of a wrist watch. HP is researching it right now and they call it a "cross bar". This new technology could put a kink in Moore's Law.

Re: future computer ~ W3
Fri, February 4, 2005 - 3:21 PMAdd to that the new 'low temperature' silicon alternatives, currently being tested, which are said to have the potential to drive up computing speeds by a factor of thousands to hundreds of thousands of times... I think grid computing will eventually become as common as surfing the web. Yeah, I'd say we've only barely entered the information age. It's going to move a whole lot faster than most people care to consider too. The whole exponential technological growth curve that is to 'conclude' in some type of near future 'spike' or 'singularity' has only begun to sink in. Better strap yourself in 'cause it's coming.
Thanks for the cool links fellas!
